Sprint Missouri, Kansas and Ohio Units Settle

Sprint workers, in extended bargaining, won new contracts in Missouri and Kansas on Feb. 27, and shortly past their deadline of midnight on Feb. 28, in Ohio. The pacts are comparable to those achieved by seven other Sprint units last month, affecting 3,000 CWA members in Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Oregon.

The three new agreements, subject to members' ratification, provide average wage increases of 9 percent over three years. They also address workers' concerns about job security, health care cost shifting and various local issues.

"Congratulations to the bargaining committees who worked so patiently to get past the subcontracting and retroactivity issues that held up settlements," said Jimmy Gurganus, CWA vice president for Telecommunications.

The Missouri and Kansas units comprise more than 300 workers whose contracts expired Jan. 31. More than 400 workers make up the Ohio unit.
