Soaring Trade Deficit = Lost Jobs for Americans

Unrestricted U.S. "free trade" policies have been a huge factor in the ballooning U.S. trade deficit, which has grown nearly 600 percent over the last 11 years.  The negative trade balance with other countries — importing more than we export, especially with China — means less demand for U.S. products and a steady loss of American jobs.  Trade policy affects services as well as manufactured goods.  For example, AT&T's agreement with CWA to return 5,000 Tier I Internet support jobs to the U.S. will help shrink the trade deficit by at least $250 million per year.
