Qwest Members Voting on Strike Approval
CWA members at Qwest Communications are voting now on strike authorization as negotiations near the Aug. 13 contract expiration, reported CWA District 7 Vice President Annie Hill.
The strike vote will be announced Aug. 5. If members authorize a strike in the event that a fair contract cannot be reached, the CWA Executive Board would approve that action with a strike date set by CWA President Morton Bahr. The unit includes about 25,000.
Negotiations are continuing in Denver, with Qwest making retrogressive demands in a number of key areas, including health care, overtime hours and other workplace issues, said LeRoy Christensen, Hill's assistant and chair of the bargaining team.
