Organizing victories:

  • TNG-CWA Canada Director Arnold Amber reported that The Newspaper Guild has been certified as bargaining representative for 48 editorial employees at the Leader-Post in Regina, Saskatchewan.

  • CWA Local 1180 won an election Jan. 28 for 19 telephone receptionists at Planned Parenthood of New York City. The local already represented direct service staff and negotiated an expedited election, conducted by the city Office of Management and Budget. The vote was 19-0. District 1 Organizing Coordinator Ed Sabol said local organizer Gwenn Richardson assisted in the campaign.

  • The Printing, Publishing and Media Workers Sector of CWA won an election for 16 full- and part-time clerical, advertising and editorial employees, and reporters and photographers, at The Latrobe (Pa.) Bulletin, said PPMWS Representative Hunter Phillips.

  • District 1 Organizing Coordinator Jeff Lacher reported that CWA Local 1126 won an NLRB election for eight General Telephone technicians who work in the Government Services division in Rome, N.Y. The vote was 4-3.
