Victories Elsewhere:
o Taxicab dispatchers employed by Unique Security at the Newark (N.J.) Airport voted 18-7 to join CWA, reported Ed Sabol, administrative assistant to District 1 Vice President Larry Mancino. Local 1032 President Jim Marketti and local Staff Representative Mario Rivera were quick on the uptake when leads emerged from a group of airport ground transportation workers the local already represented. A majority of the new unit signed authorization cards within two months, Rivera said.
o Six administrative employees of AT&T Global Real Estate in Liberty Corners, N.J. voted 5-0, to join CWA, with one worker absent. Management remained neutral in accordance with CWA's negotiated agreement, and the American Arbitration Association conducted the voting. Local 1058 Executive Vice President Ken Bishop led the campaign.
o CWA Local 6012 gained voluntary recognition for Shipley Logan Communications, an 11-person company in Tulsa, Okla., reported District 6 Area Director Danny Fetonte. District Vice President Ben Turn Jr. congratulated then-local President Dean Franklin, who made the contact, as well as CWA Representatives Edith Jones and Clint Boling for work on the campaign.
o CWA Local 6326 helped 911 operators and clericals in Lee's Summit, Mo. to organize and to join CWA on a 12-7 vote. Allison Weismann and Debbie Schlagle led an internal organizing committee, assisted by local President Cecelia Peltier, member Jennie Steinhauser and CWA Representative Sandra Cox. The local earlier organized emergency operators in Independence, Mo. and is going after 150 more in Grandview, Liberty, Olathe and Kansas City.
o Tulsa Typographical Union 403/CWA Local 14625 has negotiated a contract for five new members at Pins and Needles, a commercial shop in Sapulpa, Okla. Local Vice President Jimmy Benning spearheaded the organizing campaign and, with Local President Jack Benning, brought in the agreement, said Al Rudy, administrative assistant to CWA Vice President Bill Boarman, who heads the union's Printing, Publishing and Media Workers Sector.
o On a second attempt, production employees and engineers at KBWB-TV 20 in San Francisco voted 12-3 to join NABET-CWA Local 51. Virginia Rodriquez-Jones, administrative assistant to District 9 Vice President Tony Bixler, credited local President Kevin Wilson and Vice President Melody Knight.
