New Pact for BellSouth Internet
CWA reached a tentative five-year agreement with Bell South Corp. covering about 500 employees of Bell South Internet Services, just before the Aug. 6 contract expiration.
CWA District 3 Vice President Noah Savant said the agreement "achieves our members' key goals of obtaining comparable wage increases with other employees and maintaining health care coverage." The committee also was able to negotiate work rule changes that will be beneficial to members over the life of the contract, Savant noted.
The contract provides for a 10.5 percent increase over the contract term, the same as reached in 2004 with the Bell South core company. Other gains include the addition of two flexible vacation days, improved transfer rights, improved grievance and arbitration rights, and a new annual incentive compensation plan, among other improvements.
