New AT&T subsidiary Aio Wireless launches today

To: AT&T employees

Say hello to Aio Wireless!

We're breaking new ground in the wireless industry today by launching Aio Wireless, a new brand targeted to value-conscious customers who don't want an annual contract. The service launched initially in Houston, Orlando and Tampa.

With Aio (pronounced A-O), we are utilizing a new model with new, exclusive independent dealer distribution. We're also marketing the service under a new brand name. This creates a great opportunity to compete for the growing number of customers interested in no-annual-contract, prepaid, unlimited service, which increasingly is moving towards smartphones and mobile broadband.

This move is in line with the company's 2013 Top Priorities of defining new opportunities and fueling incremental growth. It also supports our objectives of innovating around our product offerings and bringing new choice to consumers in every customer segment.

The service is expected to roll out in multiple markets across the U.S. over the next year.

Please join me in congratulating Jennifer Van Buskirk, the president of Aio Wireless, and her team, and welcoming Aio to the wireless industry!
