National Day to Fight for Families

I was proud yesterday to stand with more than 2,000 protesters demanding that President Obama use his authority to enact relief for Immigrants.

President Larry Cohen, Chief of Staff Ron Collins and I, were arrested along with 150 protesters staging a sit-down rally in front of the White House to demand protection from deportation for millions of illegal immigrants, more than 1,000 deported everyday.

Because the party of “No” is unwilling to pass comprehensive immigration reform, it is imperative that President Obama use his Executive Authority to correct this injustice.

Whatever your plans are for enjoying this Labor Day, please take a moment to reflect on the decline of collective Bargaining Rights for the working class and how to restore them; 1) Immigration reform. 2) Removing big money in politics. 3) Fixing broken Senate Rules, and 4) Preventing voter suppression. These are the keys to restoring our rights and growing our movement.

Every advance in this half-century: Social Security, civil rights, Medicare, aid to education... one after another- came with the support and leadership of American Labor. Jimmy Carter
