Washington, D.C. – Members of NABET-CWA at NBC Universal have overwhelmingly approved strike authorization at the network if a fair contract cannot be reached.

NABET-CWA has been negotiating with NBC Universal for a new contract covering about 2,500 employees since last November; the current contract expired March 31.

NABET-CWA President John S. Clark said critical issues for employees included job security, and NBC's attempt to expand the circumstances under which non-bargaining unit persons could use digital cameras and related equipment. Management also was looking to reduce hours for night shift differential pay, eliminate retiree health care coverage for new hires, and make other changes in staffing and work hours that affect union-represented workers, he said.

The agreement covers technicians and other employees at NBC Universal network operations and network owned and operated stations in New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago and Burbank, Calif.

NABET-CWA members are mobilizing to let the public and the network know they deserve a fair contract. A sea of green balloons with the NABET-CWA message formed the backdrop for many "Today" show interviews and camera shots in May. Members also will be wearing black t-shirts on Fridays to show their support for the fair contract fight.
