Mobilization Report

Locals Nationwide hold rallies and job actions in support of bargaining for quality affordable healthcare at AT&T, while thousands of CWA'ers join other Unions and activists to call for healthcare reform in Washington, D.C.

The CWA Legacy T bargaining team went back to the bargaining table Wednesday after listening to Vice President Joe Biden address the CWA Legislative Political Conference.  VP Biden discussed the importance of the Employee Free Choice Act and how it relates to the collective bargaining process for workers that will join Unions in the future.   With the passage of the Act, employers like AT&T will not be able to stall negotiations like they are doing at the C&T table for 2009 bargaining.

The last few weeks have been a call for EVERY member to get involved in attempt to get AT&T to stop attacking our families and our standard of living.

Our collective action inside and outside the company is the only way to maintain affordable healthcare and get the fair and equitable contract we all need and deserve.

We successfully distributed literature and talked to thousands of AT&T customers around the country Friday at the iPhone launch.  Hundreds of Locals participated in that event.  We are waiting for full reports.      

The following reportable actions have happened in the past week:

7250 held an informational lunch time picket on Thursday, and continued inside actions all week.

7750 Friday 6/19 Officers and members went to all four Apple stores in the Denver metro area and handed out leaflets. They were asked to leave at a couple of places but were well received by the public at all locations. Most people were interested in the fact that AT&T wants to take away retiree benefits while they make billions. Solidarity break walks and joint informational pickets with the retirees continue.   

National mobilizers held a face to face meeting to discuss upcoming strategy.

CWA members pride themselves on performing quality work safely.  If you experience unsafe working conditions, please be sure to report them to your Local Steward or Officer.  You can also contact OSHA directly and then notify your Local Union.  Make sure your safety and protective gear is functioning properly.

If you experience changes in working conditions (i.e. change in office policies; instituting new rules or guidelines) or any other Unfair Labor Practice, make sure to get specifics to bbates@cwa-union.org.  He is working with CWA Legal to keep track of the ULPs committed during bargaining.  Locals should be filing charges with the National Labor Relations Board

Many more public events from county fairs to large AT&T sponsored events continue to be leafleted.
