Members at Five Sprint Locations Ratify Contracts
Members at Sprint locals in five locations have ratified new contracts covering about 1,000 workers, while members of Locals 3680, 3681, 3682 and 3685 in North Carolina are now voting on a proposed settlement with the results due Dec. 23.
Members of Locals 3176, Florida; 4700, Indiana; 3672, Hickory, N.C.; 3871, Tennessee and 13000, Butler, Pa., have ratified new contracts.
In a message to all Sprint locals, CWA Vice President Jimmy Gurganus, Telecommunications, said Sprint locals "owe a lot of gratitude to the locals and the members of Locals 3176, 4700, 3672 and 3871 who had no choice but to strike based on Sprint's last best and final offers."
The agreements won improvements over Sprint's demands by safeguarding premium pay for Sunday work, protecting disability coverage and keeping quality health care.
The next Sprint contracts to expire are Local 6372, Kansas/Missouri, Jan. 28, 2006; Locals 4470, 4471, 4473, 4474 and 4475, Ohio, Feb. 28, 2006; and Local 1101, New Jersey, Mar. 31, 2006.
