In The News: Largest Non-Union Dow Jones Unit Go TNG-CWA

A majority of 220 employees at Dow Jones Harborside, N.J., facility gained union recognition in early April with IAPE Local 1096 of the Newspaper Guild-CWA following a card-signing campaign. The workers were part of the largest remaining unrepresented group of editorial workers at the publishing empire that includes the Wall Street Journal, Barron's, and Dow Jones Newswires.

Key bargaining issues for the workers — writers, editors, and technical, sales and support personnel — center on health care and prescription drug costs, as well as job protections and wage standards. "We sent a strong message to the company," said Local 1096 President Steve Yount. "We are unified and we are determined to win a quality contract." The company has targeted the workers' health care and prescription benefit for drastic cuts.
