If Not Now, When? National Women's Committee
'A Simple Way to Rectify An Imbalance'
The National Women's Committee stands wholeheartedly in support of the Diversity Proposal which, if adopted, will add four at-large diversity Board positions. Women played a prominent and critical role in the formation of CWA. Operators who outnumbered all other job titles during the early years were a major force in strikes and job actions, often going out first and staying out last.
Today we estimate that almost half of CWA members are female but only four out of the 19 CWA Executive Board members are women. Adding four at-large diversity positions to the Board is a simple way to rectify that imbalance. What do we have to lose by trying it?
If a day came in this union when there were only four men on the Executive Board the members of this committee would stand firmly with other union sisters demanding at-large diversity positions for men because we would want their voice and their perspective on the Board. And because we would want to show that level of respect for our brothers who stand shoulder to shoulder with us every day fighting for justice in the workplace. The National Women's Committee will be voting for the Diversity Proposal and we ask that you do the same.
