'An Opportunity to Make History'

At this CWA Convention we have an opportunity to make history and adopt a proposal to increase Executive Board Diversity. This proposal to add four at-large diversity Board members is a long time in coming. Many of us have spent years discussing the need to have more people of color on the Board and most importantly to have our Executive Board more closely reflect the membership. Put another way we want our Board to "look more like us."

The Diversity Committee, which was chaired by Secretary-Treasurer Barbara Easterling and included two representatives from the National Committee on Equity and two representatives from the National Women's Committee has worked long and hard to craft a proposal which addresses the issue. It is now our turn to support them and work to get this proposal adopted at Convention. The proposal is not perfect and any one of us can find something that we might have done differently, but it is on whole a very important first step — an opportunity which we cannot let pass. We fully support the Diversity Proposal and urge you to do the same.
