How You Can Help

The CWA Disaster Relief Fund will be used to help CWA members and their families affected by the recent tragedies.

Contributions, by check or money order, should be addressed to the fund in care of Janine Brown, CWA, 501 Third St. N.W., Washington, DC 20001. Donations are tax deductible — it is a 501(c)3 fund. The fund’s tax ID number is 52-212 8973.

Your donation can go further by registering for employer matches. The SBC Foundation and the Verizon Foundation will match employees’ contributions, and SBC’s will also match those from retirees. Each foundation will match up to $2,500 per person annually.

AFL-CIO endorsed funds/assistance:

• Union Community Fund: Labor’s charity, the Union Community Fund, will help union members in need in New York City and the Washington, D.C., area. Make checks payable to the Union Community Fund, and designate them for the Sept. 11 Relief Fund. Mail to Union Community Fund, 815 16th St., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20006. • New York Help Hotline: The New York City Central Labor Council and the New York State AFL-CIO have established a Labor Support Center Hotline — 1-800-506-0036 — to assist working families with a variety of needs. The hotline will provide information, referrals and assistance to working families who may have lost jobs due to the tragedy; who may need immediate help with housing, food or rent; and those who need grief or trauma counseling. Also, union members who wish to volunteer their help and skills in the relief and recovery efforts may call the hotline (available only to residents in the New York
  tri-state area) to find out where their skills are most needed.
