Washington, D.C. -- Following is a statement by the Communications Workers of America.
Governor Mike Pence and the Indiana legislature have made very clear which side they’re on. The legislation that the governor signed last week is yet another attack on ordinary working people. This legislation gives employers even more rights, while advancing the freedom to discriminate against members of the LGBT community, women and other groups.
Discrimination and bigotry are still present in too many workplaces and communities. CWA will continue to push for passage of the federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act, to ensure that LGBT persons gain the protection of the law that they deserve.
Meanwhile, the governor continues to pursue an agenda attacking workers’ rights and wages that will only make things worse for Indiana families. It’s time to stand up for fairness. That means repeal of this statute and the passage of workplace protections for all.
