Forum Takes on Media Concentration

At a Washington, D.C. forum on how media concentration threatens quality and community journalism, Pres. Linda Foley, The Newspaper Guild-CWA, leads discussion on the need to retain the current ban on joint newspaper-television ownership in local markets. Attending were experts in media and news reporting, Federal Communications Commission officials and staff, including Commissioner Michael Copps and representatives from labor, public interest, consumer, women’s and civil rights groups. At the forum, the Economic Policy Institute released a new report that called the FCC ban the “last bastion for maintaining divergent viewpoints in most American communities.”
