Fighting the Good Fight

When Clyde Rucker worked for Verizon Wireless in Laurel, Md., he was determined to show other workers that they had the right to a union voice and that it was against the law for management to threaten or try to intimidate them for supporting the union. An activist, Clyde was fired on a trumped-up charge.

Now, he's putting all his energy into the fight for workers' rights and he's enlisting other union members to help do the same.

"We need to be more proactive. We need people who already are union members, who have the benefits and quality of life a union voice brings, to help carry the message to other workers."

"One of the things I'm doing is talking to CWA members and telling them, 'we need your help' so that workers at Verizon Wireless and other places will learn that they don't have to be afraid. It will only strengthen all of us."

"Today, unless you live in a union household, you don't know what unions are all about. And you don't learn about it in school. So it's up to us to make a difference."
