Fewer California Voters Support Prop. 32
Today, The Sacramento Bee reports:
More than half of California voters favor Proposition 32, according to new poll by the California Business Roundtable and Pepperdine University, although the support for the measure has declined in the last two weeks. The decline is probably tied to the union-backed No-on-32 radio ads that launched statewide during that period.
Prop. 32 is being sold as “Stop Special Interest Money Now,” as business interests like to call it. But the reality is that it would eliminate the collection of political funds from union members through payroll deductions, while creating giant loopholes that would help big corporations and billionaires continue their massive political spending sprees.
The Los Angeles Times columnist Michael Hiltzik dubbed it the “Rich Persons and Corporations Empowerment Act of 2012.” John Logan, a professor and director of labor and employment studies at San Francisco State University, recently wrote in The Hill that it would “turn California elections into Citizens United on steroids.”
