Dear Sisters and Brothers:

In my inaugural address on July 16, 1985, I stated that CWA was "Family, Union and Proud."  For more than twenty years, I repeated that countless times in hundreds of cities around the country.

In the last month, you proved that, indeed, we are family — that we care for one another.

Since March 9 when I was rushed to the hospital, I have received hundreds and hundreds of cards expressing your deep concern for my health. I was — and still am — touched by many personal comments, the prayers and good wishes expressed by rank-and-file members, officers, staff, and clerical-administrative employees of our union. I am certain that this outpouring of love and affection from my CWA family contributed to my satisfactory progress.

While many of you offered advice, the advice I am heeding is from those of you who told me to do everything Florence tells me. She has been my rock throughout this ordeal.

I expect that within several weeks, I will resume my mission to bring CWA representation to some 26,000 Verizon Wireless workers.

I wish I could thank each of you personally and I want to thank President Cohen for letting me use the CWA News for that purpose.

Morton Bahr, CWA President Emertus

To the Editor:

My name is Kurt Clacher and I work for Verizon and am a member of CWA Local 1108, located in Suffolk County, Long Island, N.Y.

Our son Cpl. Glen Clacher, United States Marine Corps, was recognized on CWA's tribute DVD, "CWA Heroes." My wife Wendy and I wish to thank you. This gesture of tribute touched us both and we look forward to showing the DVD to our son when he returns home from Iraq. I know he will feel honored.
