FAA Bill Includes OSHA Protections - For Now

Next week the Senate will take up the authorization bill for the Federal Aviation Administration. For the first time, the bill includes basic safety and health protections for flight attendants. But Sen. Rand Paul, a Kentucky Republican, is offering an amendment that would strip the protections out of the bill.

AFA-CWA is urging the Senate to defeat Paul’s amendment. “For a flight attendant, each day on the job brings potential exposures to turbulence, severe air pressure changes, unwieldy service carts, broken luggage bins, toxic chemicals and communicable diseases,” said International President Veda Shook. “Safety and health violations occur on a daily basis for flight attendants, yet the FAA has failed to extend basic protections afforded to other workers across the country."
