Dow Jones Workers Committed to Quality Publications, Quality Contract

Following is a statement by TNG-CWA President Linda Foley on the apparent decision by the Bancroft family to support the sale of Dow Jones and Company to News Corp.

We're disappointed that the independent stewardship of the Bancroft family is coming to an end.  However, our members at Dow Jones demonstrated throughout this process that the reporters and others who work in the newsrooms of the Wall Street Journal and other Dow Jones publications are committed to doing everything possible to maintain the editorial integrity and independence of newsroom operations.

These are highly respected publications, mainly because of the work of our members and the foundation of trust and quality reporting that their efforts have built. We intend to make certain that this reputation for fair and comprehensive reporting and news coverage continues.

Going forward, TNG-CWA and the Independent Association of Publishers' Employees, Local 1096 TNG-CWA, will focus on bargaining a quality contract covering Dow Jones workers to ensure that the quality workforce at Dow Jones is maintained.
