Demand Freedom to Form Unions

This Independence Day, CWA members and other workers will tell the presidential candidates what freedom means to us.

Between June 28 and July 4, CWA members are urged to join with thousands of other union members in distributing cards to their coworkers that will be bundled and sent to Senator John Kerry and President Bush.

The postcards will thank Kerry for his support of the Employee Free Choice Act (S. 1925 and H.R. 3319), which would ensure that employers can no longer interfere and stall when a majority of employees in a workplace decides to form a union.

Postcards to the president will urge him to support the legislation "so America can offer all the freedoms guaranteed to us in a free and democratic society."

Stickers are also available for locals to distribute to members to wear throughout the week, proclaiming, "I'll Fight for the Freedom to Have Unions!"

"In CWA, we can utilize our local workplace mobilization structures to distribute the postcards one-on-one and educate our members about the crisis in collective bargaining and organizing rights," CWA Executive Vice President Larry Cohen said.

CWA locals should send orders for postcards and stickers to yherrera@cwa-union.org.

Locals are asked to collect the signed postcards and return them in bulk to Yvette Herrera, CWA Executive Vice President's Office, 501 Third Street, N.W., Washington, DC 20001.
