CWA/NETT Academy Mailbag: Audio Courses Help Sight-Impaired Member Thrive
Andy Pugh, a member of Local 4320 in Columbus, Ohio, just completed two courses through CWA/NETT Academy: Net+ and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) Essentials. That's an accomplishment for anyone, but particularly for Pugh, who faces a particular challenge.
"Thank you very much, I truly enjoyed the course, and more than anything, I enjoyed the format," he wrote to his instructor. "I have a vision problem and I'm legally blind. The voice interaction with the course allowed me to access the information more easily than I have been able to in the past."
The outline format of these two particular online courses is interactive and allows the user to select a video or audio format. In Pugh's situation, the computer literally read the information to him. Pugh's excited that he'll be ready for the new work as SBC moves deeper into VoIP and networking, and he plans to eventually continue his training, using his collectively bargained benefits.
