CWA Wins $3 Million Grant
CWA and its technology and education partners have been awarded a $3 million grant by the U.S. Department of Labor to further the union’s high-tech and IT training initiatives.
The grant will fund almost 1,000 scholarships for CWA members, provide new equipment for union training centers and local mini-labs and continued training for lab proctors, and allow increased marketing and promotion of the CWA National Education and Training Trust program.
Said CWA Executive Vice President Larry Cohen, “This significant grant will allow us to continue to provide our members with the kind of technology training they need in today’s workplace, the type of innovative union program that members want.”
The grant helps to further the successful partnership between Cisco, CWA and Stanly Community College, which has provided CWA/NETT Academy with an online training and certification program for technology skills. CWA will use its share of the grant funds to increase access to its online technology training and introduce the next generation of technology tools that allow for personalized learning.
CWA/NETT currently offers a broad variety of high-tech training for members including A+ and CCNA certifications; fundamentals of UNIX; voice and data cabling; and Microsoft Word, MOUS, Powerpoint, Excell and Access.
