CWA Leaders Visit Trane Members

CWA Secretary-Treasurer Barbara J. Easterling recently spent a day with officers and members of IUE-CWA Local 81455 as the local was set to begin contract negotiations with the Trane Co., in Trenton, N.J.

Easterling, along with CWA District 1 Vice President Chris Shelton, Local 81455 President Felix Tuccillo and other local officers met at the Trane plant with Diane Notta, operations manager, and other company representatives. They reviewed the plant's history, safety record and successes, then toured the facility.

Next stop was the local's monthly membership meeting, where Easterling met with members and outlined some of CWA's biggest initiatives, including the fight to safeguard Social Security, blocking the administration's assault on overtime, and other legislative efforts. She also discussed CWA's mobilization activities, designed to build solidarity and support for CWA goals, especially around bargaining. Shelton also spoke with members and pledged CWA's full assistance as negotiations go forward.

The local represents nearly 1,000 workers at the heating and air conditioning system manufacturer. The current contract expires June 10.
