CWA: FCC Should Continue to Prioritize Broadband Buildout, Open Internet, Job Creation
Contact: Candice Johnson, CWA Communications, 202-434-1168, cjohnson@cwa-union.org
The Communications Workers of America had this comment in response to FCC Chairman Genachowski's announcement today that he supports regulating broadband Internet access under rules originally developed for telephone networks, with some modification and “boundaries:”
Washington, D.C – The Communications Workers of America believes that the Federal Communications Commission’s rulemaking and its response to the recent Comcast decision should prioritize buildout, job creation, an open internet, and a level competitive landscape across all networks.
CWA fully supports an open Internet and regulatory policies that will encourage investment and the build out of true high speed networks. The U.S continues to lag far behind the rest of the industrialized world in building out its high speed broadband network. This constricts economic development and restricts consumer choice and options. The FCC’s National Broadband Plan provides a blueprint to address this crisis.
