CWA: Comcast's Discrimination against Internet Users is Wrong

Contact: Candice Johnson, CWA Communications, 202-434-1168, cjohnson@cwa-union.org

Washington, D.C. – The Communications Workers of America is calling on all segments of the industry to continue to abide by the Federal Communications Commission’s four principles for promoting an open Internet until authority is in place that reinforces the FCC’s ability to safeguard against interference in an open Internet.

Comcast’s action that blocked customer access to the Internet was wrong, CWA said, and must be addressed.

The critical issue for our nation is to keep our focus on promoting the build out of high speed broadband networks and the national broadband plan that will ensure that all communities and all Americans have access to high speed Internet and can share in its economic benefits.

The FCC principles state that:

  • Consumers are entitled to access the lawful Internet content of their choice.
  • Consumers are entitled to run applications and services of their choice, subject to the needs of law enforcement.
  • Consumers are entitled to connect their choice of legal devices that do not harm the network.
  • Consumers are entitled to competition among network providers, application and service providers, and content providers.
