Communications Workers Set to Strike Sprint Local Phone Company in New Jersey
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Leaders of the Communications Workers of America have authorized a strike against Sprint's local telephone operations in Clinton, N.J., to begin at 12:01 a.m. Monday, April 7, if an agreement is not reached.
The current contract for the 92 Sprint employees expired on March 31.
In announcing the strike authorization today, CWA President Morton Bahr cited retrogressive bargaining demands by the company, including Sprint's insistence upon severely slashing sickness disability benefits.
CWA represents 700,000 workers in telecommunications, IT, news media, electronics and the public sector. It is the largest union in the state of New Jersey.
