Cingular Gains in District 3 and 9
CWA has won units of 161 workers in Baton Rouge and 277 in Lafayette, La., and 244 throughout California and Nevada.
On May 24, District 3 Organizing Coordinator Hugh Wolfe reported pending American Arbitration Association certifications for units at the two Louisiana call centers. District 3 Vice President Jimmy Smith praised the efforts of local organizers and Presidents Walter Bagot, 3403, and Judy Bruno, 3406, and CWA Representative M.M. Smith.
On April 23, Virginia Rodriquez, administrative assistant to District 9 Vice President Tony Bixler, announced that the District reached an agreement providing representation for all Cingular retail store employees throughout California and Nevada.
“The agreement wrapped these employees into our existing Cingular facilities contract and makes Cingular 100 percent union in these states,” said Jim Gordon, District 9’s Northern California/Nevada/ Hawaii area director, who negotiated the agreement.
CWA has so far organized 4,800 Cingular workers this year.
