Cingular Discounts Service to All Union Members

As millions of cell phone customers consider switching carriers now that new rules allow for cell phone number portability, CWA is letting union members know that they can support a company that proclaims it is "proud to be a union company" - Cingular Wireless - and also receive special union-member phone and service discounts.

CWA members receive a 15 percent discount on Cingular calling plans, and members of other unions receive a 10 percent discount, together with Cingular's unique "Rollover" minutes and discounts on telephones and other services.

In a letter to CWA local officers, President Morton Bahr encouraged locals to make certain that CWA members received the information about Cingular service and urged locals also to contact their AFL-CIO local and state federations.

More than 20,000 CWA members work at Cingular, which takes a high-road approach to labor relations and supports neutrality and card-check organizing rights, Bahr pointed out.

Bahr also wrote to the heads of other AFL-CIO unions, urging them to spread the word about the union wireless choice. "By encouraging your members to consider switching their service, or by exploring Cingular's programs for group service for your union, you can support a good union employer," he wrote.

Cingular also will send a union sales representative to meet with union members at international or local union offices, membership meetings or worksites to discuss service options.
