California Locals Reach Early Pact With Verizon
CWA reached an early settlement with Verizon California covering 6,000 members in 12 locals, reported CWA District 9 Vice President Tony Bixler.
The agreement provides for a compounded wage increase of nearly 11 percent over the five-year contract term, plus a 4 percent lump sum payment effective March 20, 2005.
Other gains include an additional personal holiday, enhanced employment security and transfer opportunities, an increase in the minimum pension, improvements in health insurance, and improvements to the grievance process and administration of overtime.
The current contract expires March 19. Contract explanation meetings were underway at CWA News press time, with the ratification vote to be completed by Jan. 31. The bargaining committee unanimously recommended approval of the settlement.
