Annual conference connects and inspires U@M leaders

Four days. Dozens of sessions. And scores of fired-up CWA brothers and sisters who came together for networking, workshops and union building. That was the scene in Orlando earlier this month week at the 2014 CWA Mobility Leadership Conference.

This was one of the best and most productive conferences I’ve attended in the last 6+ years. -- Conference attendee

From across the country, CWA members at AT&T Mobility gathered to connect with others, make plans to build the Unity@Mobility campaign, and talk through the workplace issues that really matter to us all — our benefits, our rights, and a voice at work.

You could feel the energy that everyone brought to the table, and it was very clear that the people who attended knew your struggles and understood each other’s obstacles. It felt like unity and I felt at home. - Marco Rodriguez, CWA Local 9421

The conference’s events included: well-received trainings on the Family and Medical Leave Act, handling grievances, and collective bargaining; popular workshops on how to deal with bullying in the workplace and assessing our political future; panels on the key role of member mobilization during contract bargaining; a presentation on a recent poll of AT&T Mobility members; and an overview of the hundreds of benefits available through Union Plus.

The best part of the conference was all of the workshops because I want to learn to be good at my 'union job' and help keep my co-workers informed. - Jessica, Local 3217

Attendees also heard from CWA leadership, including CWA President Larry Cohen and Secretary-Treasurer Annie Hill, about the direction of the Unity@Mobility campaign and the critical work we have to do in 2015 and beyond.

To quote Annie: “Unity@Mobility is no longer just a slogan. It is a movement for Mobility workers."

The 2014 Mobility Conference helped make that reality. And you can be the first to know about the 2015 conference — sign up for updates today.
