AFA-CWA Reaches Pact at AirTran

AFA-CWA has reached a tentative agreement with AirTran Airways covering more than 1,400 flight attendants.

Ratification was underway as the CWA News went to press. AFA-CWA Master Executive Council 57 President Susan Cosby said negotiations were tough, "but we persevered."

Details and materials about the settlement were provided to flight attendants but were not made public prior to the ratification vote. Generally, the agreement provides for significant wage increases and improvements in scheduling, among the flight attendants' key goals.

"As tough as it's been for the industry, times have been tougher for AirTran flight attendants" who "haven't had a raise for a long, long time," Cosby said.

If the agreement is ratified, "we"ll be filling that gap," she said, praising the negotiating committee for their solidarity and hard work over the two-and-a-half year process.
