Adrian Seifert, Retired District 4 CWA Representative Dies

Adrian Seifert, a retired CWA representative in District 4, died Nov. 29 of cancer. He was 67. Said District 4 Vice President Jeff Rechenbach, who came on staff the same day as Seifert, "Adrian had a great mischievous smile that could disarm most any situation and a great sense of family values. He cared about his own family and his CWA family with almost equal passion."

That was Jan. 16, 1981. Seifert spent his entire staff career working out of the District 4 office in Cleveland. He retired in March 2000.

Rechenbach said Seifert was dedicated to servicing the District's independent telecom units, such as GTE, Sprint and Cincinnati Bell, and did particularly well at "making sure they did not feel lost in the big RBOC shuffle."

Prior to joining the staff, Seifert worked from 1955 to 1980 as an installer-repairman and switchman for Cincinnati Bell. All the while, he was active in CWA Local 4400 in Cincinnati, serving in a variety of leadership positions including that of president.

He was Local 4400 strike director during the Cincinnati Bell strike of 1971, participated in Cincinnati Bell bargaining in 1977 and 1980, and edited the local's newsletter for seven years. He was active in local organizing and lobbying activities and, as secretary-treasurer of the Butler-Warren-Clinton Counties Labor Council, coordinated get-out-the-vote campaigns.

Seifert is survived by his wife, Josephine; sons Gary, Daniel, Anthony, Michael and Christopher; daughter Sherry; 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; a brother, Charles; and sisters Louise, Coralee and Mary Beth Malloni.
