More Workers Join CWA

Workers at three companies in CWA District 4 now have CWA representation; their employers agreed to CWA recognition when a majority of workers demonstrated that they wanted a union voice.

In Columbus, Ohio, workers at Ametek, a manufacturer of technical and industrial products, won representation by CWA Local 4310.

In Dayton, workers at PAE & Associates, Inc., a water treatment plant contractor, now are members of IUE-CWA Local 84755, and in Fond Du Lac, Wis., workers at Financial Strategies gained representation by CWA Local 4622. In each case, the employer recognized workers' majority support.

In New York City, five editorial writers at Thomas Reuters magazine overcame a strong anti-union campaign, including captive-audience meetings and other coercive tactics, to vote for TNG-CWA Local 31003 representation.

This was an especially sweet victory for workers at a company that is fighting workers who want a fair contract. (see related article in this issue). This is the first group of workers in a predominantly non-union section of the company who have organized.
