CWA Members Call Out ICE Coast to Coast
AWU-CWA Local 9009 President Parul Koul (above, left of center) participated in a national day of action in Boston, Mass., on January 30, while (below) AWU-CWA members did the same in San Francisco, Calif.
Members of Alphabet Workers United (AWU-CWA Local 9009), including AWU-CWA President Parul Koul, took part in bi-coastal protests last week against recent violence perpetrated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers. These protests came in response to several high-profile deaths, including that of union member and Intensive Care Unit nurse Alex Pretti (AFGE Local 3669). Other union workers, including CWA members, have been detained while on the job or have felt unsafe traveling to work, making ICE actions a workplace safety concern for many working people.
This national action was a show of solidarity with all working people whose lives have been impacted by the recent surge in activity. AWU-CWA members work for multinational technology company Google, owned by parent company Alphabet, and have been outspoken about misuses of technology and digital surveillance against working-class people.
