By an overwhelming margin, CWA members at Verizon West voted last week to authorize a strike if a fair contract cannot be reached during negotiations. Bargaining is continuing; the contract expired March 13.

CWA members at Verizon West are gearing up their mobilization to support the fight for a fair contract as negotiations for 5,500 workers continued this week past the Mar. 13 contract expiration.

An administrative law judge recommended that the Illinois Commerce Commission reject the proposed merger of Frontier Communications and Verizon Communications. Verizon wants to sell its landlines in 14 states to Frontier in a deal that CWA says would be a disaster for consumers, workers and quality service.

CWA members in West Virginia and other states are keeping up the fight against Verizon?s plan to sell 4.8 million landlines in 14 states to Frontier Communications. A broad coalition of union members, consumers, public interest groups and community leaders are flooding elected officials and other decision-makers with thousands of letters and phone calls.

CWA members in California will show Verizon West they're ready for contract negotiations at a march and rally on Feb. 1 in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
