In a case that has transfixed the scientific community and mobilized health and safety activists, UCLA professor Patrick Harran struck a deal with prosecutors on criminal charges stemming from the 2008 laboratory fire that killed 23-year-old Sheharbano "Sheri" Sangji, a research assistant and UPTE-CWA Local 9119 member.

On May 16, 2014, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) filed suit against AT&T on behalf of four CWA Local 6360 members for violating Section 11(c), the non-discrimination clause, of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

"A patient dies every three seconds from a medical error," said CWA Local 1168 President Cori Gambini, again and again over May's Safe Staffing blitz. Healthcare workers know the role that nurse to patient ratios play in giving good and safe care, and all last month in Western New York State, CWA healthcare workers and allies got this message out to the public and legislators in the fight to assure all patients receive the they deserve.
