CWA: Report Finds Growing Impact of Service Agreements on Local News Diversity, Competition
A new report by the University of Delaware's Center for Community Research and Service provides a critical look at the impact of shared services and news sharing agreements on local media markets. The report will be filed today with the Federal Communications Commission to inform its review of media concentration and ownership in local markets.
Using Every Tool in Their Arsenal, Delta Lobbies Against Fair Elections
The manager of corporate communications for Delta Air Lines, Chris Kelly Singley, recently said, "We don't want to engage in a political debate…And we just thought we were flying airplanes." Yet new revelations included in Delta's new lobbying disclosure report highlight that Delta doth protest too much. Despite their avowedly apolitical stance Delta continues to drive a union-busting political agenda, and is ready and willing to throw around a range of dollars and perks to sweeten the pot for lawmakers - no matter the cost to the American taxpayer or traveler.

Soon after his State of the Union address in January, President Obama released an updated "Strategy for American Innovation." In the same month, the Department of Commerce was tasked with completing a comprehensive study by January 2012. An Innovation Advisory Board of private citizens was created to work in consultation with the Department of Commerce on this important report. To help inform the consultation process for the report, the Communications Workers of America ? which has a seat on the Innovation Advisory Board ?co-sponsored a half-day conference with Georgetown University's Kalmanovitz Initiative for Labor and the Working Poor and the Center for Economic and Policy Research.
