Sixty-three cleaners and hostesses at Airway Cleaners, at Newark Airport, voted for CWA representation on Sept. 7. The election was a contesting election between CWA and the independent non-affiliated United Trades Construction and Industrial Union.

Thanks to the efforts of six CWA locals, more than 500 New Jersey state employees gained CWA representation on Sept. 1. after years of being considered management or confidential employees – and union ineligible.

Forty-four Cingular network technicians in North Carolina gained CWA representation on Aug. 16 after a majority of the workers supported CWA in a card check. Locals 3607 and 3603 assisted the workers in their efforts to get a union like most of their co-workers at the company.

District 1 Organizing Coordinator Erin Bowie reports: On August 8 the AAA certified that a majority of the 92 workers in the Cingular Wireless  Paramus, NJ IWC, IPC Unit have signed up to have CWA be their union.  This is a specialty unit that assists Cingular customers traveling abroad
