CWA Digital Membership Card FAQ

FOR MEMBERS

Can I still get a physical CWA Membership Card?

CWA is shifting to digital membership cards, but we understand that some members require physical cards at their worksite. Please contact your local if you need a physical CWA membership card.

The card I downloaded has the wrong name or local number.

Card links were sent to the email address we have on file for you in our membership database. Please contact your local to update your record and receive the correct link. Updates to the digital card system occur approximately every 30 days, and your card will be automatically updated once the update is made in the CWA membership database.

I am no longer a CWA member. Why did I receive a card?

Sometimes there is a delay in receiving data from employers so we can update our membership records. Please contact your local so they can update your membership record.

I did not receive a link to download my membership card.

We may not have your correct email address on file or our email may have been blocked by a spam filter. Please contact your local to receive a link to download your card.

I’m not sure this will work on my phone.

Digital Wallets are now very common on all major devices, and possibly already have at least a basic setup on your device. Learn more about Google Wallet, or Apple Wallet. These systems do not work for non-smartphone devices.

I have changed my name or local recently and will need a new card. How can I get one?

Updates to the digital membership card occur approximately every 30 days, so any changes to your name or to your local will be automatically updated by the system when the monthly update occurs. Please contact your local to ensure the most up-to-date information is stored in the CWA membership database.

FOR LOCALS

Can we still get physical CWA Membership Cards for our members?

CWA is shifting to digital membership cards and we strongly encourage all locals to take advantage of this convenient, cost-effective new format. While digital cards are the standard, blank physical cards are available for locals opting to distribute them at their expense.

To ensure a smooth process, please be advised of the following:

  1. Ordering of blank CWA membership card stock is restricted to authorized individuals only.
  2. The cost per card, inclusive of standard USPS Advantage ground shipping, will be invoiced to the respective local.
  3. To streamline the process for units mandated to present a UNION card, the S/T Office offers a waiver for both card costs and shipping. Please submit your request via email to STOffice@cwa-union.org, ensuring you specify the employer requires members to present a physical membership card at the workplace, as well as the quantity of blank card stock requested. Upon approval from the S/T Office, your local can proceed to order cards from the CWA Materials page, with the associated costs being waived and the invoice reflecting a zero balance.
  4. If a shipping method faster than USPS Advantage Ground is requested, the additional cost will be invoiced to the local.
  5. Anticipate a processing and shipping timeframe of 10-14 business days for order fulfillment.

If you have any questions, email AptifySupport@cwa-union.org.

Member did not receive a link to download their membership card.

If member contacts the local because they did not receive a link to download their digital membership card:

  1. Verify the member’s email address is correct in their Aptify record.
  2. If the email address is correct, ask the member to check their email spam folder.
  3. If the email address is incorrect, update their information in Aptify.
  4. After verifying or updating the member’s email address, the local can access the Digital Membership Card Links report in Aptify.

If the local did not submit an Opt-in form to authorize CWA to email members directly, please fill out the Opt-in form here and we will email members their digital membership card link directly.

If the local submitted an Opt-in form to authorize CWA to email members directly, please email AptifySupport@cwa-union.org to get assistance.

Your email should include the following information for each member:

  • Full name of the member
  • Member CWA ID
  • Current email address

Aptify Support will update the information

The information in Aptify is out of date. I have updated contact information for our membership, is there a way we can upload it all at once instead of updating member information individually?

Yes! Along with launching the digital membership cards, we have also introduced the Bulk Contact Information Update report, which can be utilized to improve large amounts of membership information at once. To use this report:

  1. Log into Aptify.
  2. Navigate to the Reports section.
  3. Go to the Bulk Contact Information Update report and download the list as an Excel spreadsheet.
  4. Make any updates to the member contact information, and password protect the Excel file.
  5. Send an encrypted email to aptifysupport@cwa-union.org, with the password protected Excel file included.

Some items to note in regards to the Bulk Contact Information Update report.

  • The following fields cannot be edited or updated in the report:
    • CWA ID
    • Status
    • Local Number
    • Processing Unit
  • Do NOT delete or add any columns once the report has been downloaded to your computer, as it will cause the update to fail.
  • The address being changed is the address maintained by the local, the HQ maintained address will be unaffected.
  • When emailing aptifysupport@cwa-union.org be sure to password protect the file and encrypt the email. Please send the password in a separate email.
  • Once the report has been sent to aptifysupport@cwa-union.org, please allow up to 24 hours for our membership team to apply the changes.

FOR SECTORS

If I download my membership card, will it come in the branding of my sector union?

At this time, all membership cards come in CWA branding, any changes to sector or division specific member cards would be announced by the sector or division office.
