Communications Workers of America (CWA) and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) are partners for an AIDS-free generation, bringing hope to mothers and children around the world living with HIV.
CWA delegates to the 1990 CWA Convention adopted EGPAF as the CWA Charity of Choice after Elizabeth Glaser shared her personal story and the devastating effects of pediatric AIDS.Founded through a mother’s determination, EGPAF is driven to see a world where no other person or family is devastated by this disease.
As our Charity of Choice, Locals commit to donating $1 per member per year to EGPAF. While many Locals contribute directly from their Local treasury, many Locals sponsor very successful fundraising events. Each year we honor the Locals that have gone the extra mile. The Local that raises the most money receives the Ariel Award, three Locals (based on size) receive the Hope award and all locals contributing 200% or more of their quota receive special recognition.
Since 1990, CWA has generously donated more than $8 million to help us end AIDS in children. And that is with fifty per cent of our locals participating. Just think what we could do if all Locals contributed to EGPAF!
This compassionate support from CWA members has allowed EGPAF the flexibility to launch critical programs that are not being supported elsewhere. With CWA’s help, EGPAF has reached more than 32 million women with services to prevent transmission of HIV to their babies.
CWA’s continued contributions help EGPAF reach more families, communities and entire countries with lifesaving treatment and services. CWA’s generosity helps EGPAF reach the most vulnerable at critical moments in their lives.
