Thousands rally for workers? rights at Verizon stores, Banco Popular, and Darden Restaurants.

Today, CWA and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) requested the services of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) regarding ongoing negotiations with Verizon Communications. The two unions represent approximately 45,000 workers at Verizon locations from New England to Virginia.

Verizon technicians, members of CWA locals across Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia, have been racing to restore service to the Mid-Atlantic region after a series of fatal, power-cutting thunderstorms.

Thirty-two members of the U.S. House of Representatives signed a letter to Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski citing concerns about the proposed Verizon Wireless/Big Cable deal?s impact on consumers in their districts and across the country.
