Study Focuses on Stress, Drugs, Alcohol

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has awarded a $345,800 grant to continue and expand an occupational stress study initiated three years ago by CWA and the School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University of Baltimore.

Virgil D. Parks, who was an administrative assistant to the vice president of District 9 in CWA’s Burlingame, Calif., office, retired March 1. Parks, 61, went to work for Pacific Telesis in June 1956, in Redding, Calif., and soon became active in CWA Local 9419.

AT&T-BT Deal: Unions Request Meeting on Worker Issues

The Atlantic Alliance of telecommunications unions in the U.S. and Britain welcomed the proposed partnership between AT&T and British Telecommunications (BT) and requested a joint meeting of top officials of the companies and the unions to discuss employee issues surrounding the deal.

CWA Members Approve Lucent Agreement

Members of the Communications Workers of America have ratified a new five-year agreement with Lucent Technologies.

The national agreement was ratified by 71 percent of voting members. The seven local agreements also were ratified.
