Court Orders Newspaper to Restore Retiree Health Benefits

In a big victory for CWA retirees from the Akron Beacon-Journal, a federal court ordered the newspaper and owner, Canadian media mogul David Holmes Black, to restore their prescription-drug plan and pay them the full cost of their wrongfully denied benefits.

May is Older Americans Month

Continuing a tradition set in motion by President John F. Kennedy in 1963, President Obama proclaimed that May 2010 is Older Americans month. The proclamation was made to to honor the ongoing contributions of older Americans and pledge our support as a nation to the "wisest among us."

CWA Retired Members' Council Annual Meeting will be on July 24 in Washington, DC

This is the Official Call to the 2010 Annual Meeting of the CWA Retired Members' Council to be held in Washington, DC on Saturday, July 24 at the Washington Hilton. We hope you will be able to attend. In addition to carrying out the official business of the Council, delegates will hear presentations on topics such as the upcoming midterm elections and the Union Privilege program. Further, there will be workshops on Sunday morning. (Subjects to be announced later)

Windstream Sues Retirees for Objecting to Health Care Cuts

In an outrageous tactic, Windstream is suing dozens of retirees who objected to the company's plans to cut back or eliminate their promised health care benefits. CWA represents more than 1,300 employees and 3,000 retirees at the company.
