IUE-CWA Local 81102; Long Island City, NY
Tiffany Rivera is a member of IUE-CWA Local 81102 in Long Island City, NY, where she works as a Final Voicer at Steinway & Sons.
Tiffany is a graduate of the IUE-CWA Mentorship Program. She sits on her Local’s Executive Board and is the Chairperson of the Women’s Committee.
She credits her mentors, Michelle Smith and Dennis Morales from the Mentorship Program, with providing “union 101” guidance, and fellow Next Gen activist Christian Gonzalez who has shared advice on how to shape her future as an activist.
According to Tiffany, “what inspired me to be involved was my experiences as a minimum wage worker. I had to fight to get more money and benefits from people that didn't see the value in what my peers and I were doing. After months of back and forth, we were able to win what we deserved. That sparked within me the motivation to get more involved because although it was a small win, there is and always will be so much more we can do.”
When asked about her new role in Next Gen, Tiffany said, “Young workers have so much more knowledge and experience than people believe, because of their lived experiences of the modern day economy. What I want to see for our future is a world where the younger generations are always pushing the boundaries of what's possible. Young people’s passion has historically been a key component of social and economic change.”
