Should I clock out before going on strike?
Yes, you should. As you leave for the strike, you should follow normal protocol for leaving for the day.
Should I walk out in the middle of a customer interaction?
You have the right to walk out in the middle of a customer interaction at 3pm ET/ 2pm CT/ 1pm MT/ Noon PT. Your local may have specific instructions on how you should wrap up your interaction and leave your work site.
Can I be “pointed” for not going to work during the strike? What about for walking out in the middle of a customer interaction? What if I am handling customer information at 3pm?
No, you cannot be pointed for participating in the strike, or for interrupting a customer interaction to leave. Striking is a legally protected activity. If you are handling customer information, you should take measures to make sure it is not exposed, such as closing out or handing off to a manager.
How will I know if the strike is cancelled if I cannot access my phone while I’m at work (call centers)?
If you are able to go online, visit https://www.cwa-union.org/unitymobility. We will post an announcement confirming whether the strike is still on. Your local may also have additional instructions about this.
If I am on call (techs) or have shifts scheduled during the weekend, should I let my manager know I will not be working, or should I just not show up?
You do not need to call in. Because there is a strike, managers are aware that many, many people will be off work and they will have to make contingency plans.
What should I do with my COU phone?
You should ask your supervisor what to do with your COU phone.
What should I do with my truck? (for techs)
The Company and the Union have agreed that the member should do what they normally do with their trucks. If they have a garage then they should bring the truck to the garage by 3pm ET/ 2pm CT/ 1pm MT/ Noon PT. If they normally garage their truck at their home then they should bring their truck home. If there is a outage and for some reason the company needs a truck, they may go to the member’s home to pick up the vehicle. The company will then return the truck so that the member will have the truck back in time for work on Monday. We have agreed to this.
If it is my regular day off, or I’m on vacation, should I still attend a picket line?
Yes! If you are off or on vacation, please join a picket line if you can.
If I have scheduled vacation during the strike, will I get vacation pay?
Yes, you should receive vacation pay if you already had your vacation scheduled.
If I am on disability, should I attend a picket line?
If you are out on disability, and you have a doctor’s note saying you cannot walk or stand or come to work, you should not be on a picket line.
What do I do if there are not picket signs at my store? Where should I picket?
Each local should have plans to supply pickets to your location. If this isn't the case, reach out to us by emailing unityatmobility@cwa-union.org and we will try to get you materials you need.
Should people who are not union members go on strike? Are they protected?
Yes. Even if you are not a member, you should picket, and you are legally protected.
Should new hires who haven’t finished filling out union paperwork go on strike? Are they protected?
Yes. All employees, even new hires, are legally protected and should strike.
