Statement on the Passing of Congressman Raúl Grijalva

The following can be attributed to Communications Workers of America District 7 Vice President Susie McAllister:

Our entire CWA family is saddened by the passing of Congressman Raúl Grijalva, especially our staff, members, and retirees in Arizona.

Congressman Grijalva was a true warrior for working people who never hesitated to stand up for those who needed his help. A co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus when the Affordable Care Act was introduced, he played a key role in the passage of that historic legislation which has extended health care coverage to millions of Americans.

While Rep. Grijalva’s legislative accomplishments were many, he will be most remembered by CWA members and retirees in Southern Arizona for his personal warmth and kindness. He never hesitated to promote the work of community activists, and empowered people to advocate for themselves, their families, and their communities.

Our prayers go out to his family, his friends, his dedicated staff, and all who had the honor of working alongside Congressman Grijalva. His voice and his vision will be missed.
