CWA Statement Regarding USTR Decision to Curb Abuses of ISDS
WASHINGTON – The Communications Workers of America (CWA) union released the following statement regarding the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative’s decision interpreting standards of investment protection under the United States-Colombia TPA:
CWA commends U.S. Trade Representative Tai for taking bold action to prevent the worst abuses of investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) arbitrations. Misinterpretations of the U.S.-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement have allowed unscrupulous corporations to undermine labor, environmental and public health protections, and have made it easier for companies to ship jobs overseas. This decision places important guardrails on ISDS arbitrations for the protection of all workers, at home and abroad.
